ABOUT ME

Hello! I am Susan López, Speech & Language Pathologist (SLP) and founder of LOGOPEDA.DK. I launched this iniciative with the aim of offering my services to spanish-speaking families who need a language/speech or communication therapist for their little ones.

In the last two years I have worked at a Spanish Academy in Copenhagen. There I recognized the great need of families to have a speech therapist or language and communication therapist who can work with their children, who are usually bilingual.

I am the mother of a 3-year-old little girl and together with my family (including my dog) we decided to leave our country in 2021 and embark on an adventure through the Viking lands.

My experience

I graduated in 2014 from the University of Bío Bío (Chile) and since then I have dedicated myself to providing specialized therapies for children with difficulties in language, speech and communication.

My therapeutic approach during these 10 years of experience has focused on play, as I believe it is the key to establishing a strong connection with children. Through play, not only do we create a fun and comfortable environment, but also allow children to significantly acquire new skills and knowledge.

From an academic point of view, I am constantly learning and have expanded my knowledge in various specialized techniques, including the Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets technique, Oral Placement Therapy (OPT), Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and Baby Signs. These tools have allowed me to achieve significant progress with patients with different diagnoses, from late talkers, speech and language disorders and even with diagnoses that affect neurodevelopment such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), specific learning disorders, communication disorders and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

It is essential to highlight that evidence-based practice contributes significantly to children's progress, ensuring effective and personalized interventions that support their optimal development.

My Goal

My goal is to provide a supportive environment where each child feels safe to explore and develop their communication skills. I am committed to helping each of my little patients reach their full potential, as well as their families by providing them with the necessary tools to achieve significant and lasting progress in the language and communication development of each child.

why I can make a difference

Based on my work experience in Denmark, I have observed that the Danish speech therapy work system has certain aspects that could benefit from adjustments to improve its effectiveness. One of the particularities that I have noticed is that the therapist focuses more on working with teachers and/or parents instead of interacting directly with the children, which implies that the responsibility for speech therapy advances falls on the latter. Many parents, lacking technical knowledge and specific guides, sometimes encounter challenges when implementing recommended therapies.

On the contrary, my therapies are based on direct work with children and their families, which ensures that the objectives defined in the treatment plan are met effectively, achieving rapid progress.
